Near Eastern and Asian Studies offers a bachelor of arts with a major in Near Eastern languages or a major in Near Eastern studies, and a Master of Arts in Near Eastern Studies. A major in Near Eastern languages consists of: (a) a concentration in either Arabic or Hebrew; or (b) joint study of both languages. A bachelor of arts with a major in Near Eastern studies consists of courses in either Arabic or Hebrew in addition to courses in Ancient Near East, Islamic and Jewish civilizations, modern Middle East history, and Arabic linguistics. Undergraduate students may also obtain a minor in Arabic or Hebrew, or Near Eastern studies. The Honors program in Near Eastern studies is open to students of superior academic ability who are majoring in Near Eastern studies.
In addition,
the department offers an eight-course sequence of Japanese and a four-course of Chinese sequence languages
and cultures. These courses satisfy the needs and interests of the university's
diverse student body. Presently the department does not offer Asian studies
majors or minors. |
