About Wayne State

The Wayne State University Department of Near Eastern & Asian Studies offers degree and non-degree programs and courses of instruction which acquaint students with the languages and civilizations of the Near East and Far East. The department emphasizes multi-media assisted, proficiency-oriented language instruction and inter-cultural understanding supported by one of the most advanced language laboratories.

In addition to studying the original languages, the student may elect courses from a variety of offerings for which no language other than English is required. Most students enroll in the sequence of three basic foreign language courses, which is a degree requirement for liberal arts and science majors, but students may choose to go further. The department's array of language and culture courses prepare students to be part of a diversified society and participate in a global economy.
