This annual scholarship is established to honor Roger M. Ajluni, M.D. on the occasion of his 60th birthday by his children. Dr. Ajluni immigrated to the United States in 1954 in search of intellectual, economic, and political freedoms that were unavailable to him in his war-torn homeland. He obtained both an undergraduate and a medical degree from universities in NewYork State.

Dr. Ajluni's children wish to honor their father by assisting other new Americans in their quest for
higher education. They feel that Dr. Ajluni's love for education of any discipline, as well as his
esteem both for immigrants and the nation that offers them so much opportunity, is well-reflected
in the establishment of the Scholarship.

This fund is established to recognize scholastic achievement, to encourage continued progress, and
to provide assistance to students in financing their education at Wayne State University, and is to
be administered according to the following provisions.

In order to be eligible for this award the student must be enrolled in Wayne State University's
English Language Institute (ELI) and accepted for study at Wayne State University. It is the
donors' desire that preference be given to students who are first-generation U.S. citizens or
permanent residents.
